Role of Chromium in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is the disorder of female reproductive system. Obesity, hyperandrogenism and inflammation are known to play a role in its pathophysiology. It can cause menstural irregularities, insulin resistance, infertility, dyslipidemia, acne, hairsuitism and glucose intolerance. Unhealthy lifestyles like high intake of fatty and sugary foods, decrease in physical activity also play a role in causing obesity and metabolic dysfunction. Chromium is an important element in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. In this review we will find out how chromium improves metabolic dysfunction, lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, menstural irregularities and ovarian problems. We will also find out how chromium can be used as a treatment strategy for polycystic ovaries.

An Unusual but Treatable Cause of Autistic Regression

We report the case of a seven year old male child who presented with regression of cognitive function and loss of speech over a 12 month period. Physical neurological examination was normal with no KF ring. Differential diagnoses considered were Wilson’s disease, autoimmune encephalitis and SSPE. CSF analysis was normal. EEG was non-contributory. Serum ceruloplasmin was within normal limits. Serum autoimmune panel had tested positive for CASPR2. Child was treated with pulse methylprednisolone followed by oral steroids. Child‘s cognitive function and speech have improved to a great extent.

Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP): A Rare Presentation in COVID-19

A 22-year-old female with no previous morbidities presented with acute onset neurological symptoms in the form of hemi sensory phenomenon. On evaluation she had fever and routine COVID-19 RT-PCR testing turned out to be positive. During the course of hospital stay she developed classical features of acquired TTP. Her ADAMTS 13 level was 36% of normal activity suggestive of direct viral mediated thrombotic microangiopathy. High vWF levels and low ADAMTS 13 activity is reported in COVID-19 Infection. In rare cases like ours this can mimic classical TTP.

Caso raro de nefritis inducida por ondansetrón: informe de un caso

Este informe de caso describe una presentación poco común de un fármaco de uso común. El ondansetrón, un antiemético de uso común por diversas razones e indicaciones, está implicado en este caso. Esto es importante porque, hasta donde sabemos, este es el primer caso de nefritis notificado con ondansetrón. Este escenario clínico es de inmensa importancia clínica porque se trata de uno de los fármacos de uso común y estos eventos adversos poco frecuentes deben tenerse en cuenta para la identificación temprana y el tratamiento inmediato del paciente.
