De Koning I, Jörg A, Homan J, Kancans Envall O, Landtmeters J, Pihl L, Smulders J, Stukje F, van der Voort D, van Goethem I, van Kastel C and Moret-Tatay C*

Science is not limited to researchers but it is mainly studied at the University. In this way, the internationalization of Higher Education has brought an enriching perspective to the topic that is addressed. Here, we came across a challenging scenario of learning the particular Stroop paradigm. A group of Erasmus students share its curiosity about their own differences in their performance, which fosters the present work. It is aimed at nurturing their (and other people´s) learning during their early career. Therefore, an approximation to the scientific method was followed by them, which is described in the present work. Finally, a glossary of 18 terms was listed during the exercise. We hope this can be used as a motivating material for putting theory into practice.

Wong KV

This article describes a possible project in the fight against Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine may be used for structural brain scans periodically on advanced T2DM patients under a restrictive diet of glucose and no gluten and a regimen of daily aerobic exercises and brain exercises. The MRI scans will provide physical neural confirmation that there is reversal of atrophy in the hippocampus. This confirmation or otherwise will affirm the effectiveness or otherwise of the specific diet and exercise proposed.

Deeper Look in Professionals’ Happiness and Its Relation to Ethics

Tommy Prayoga, Any Rufaedah and Juneman Abraham*

Looking back at one year after the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), we all realize there are many issues and sectors left open to be developed, especially in Indonesia. One of the most important is people and their jobs. As there is a tendency for people to view the establishment as a competitive ground, we suggest seeing it as a learning platform for inspection and improvement. To change how people take and view their jobs or prospects is as important as hiring the right people. A way that psychology can contribute to this is through the study of professions happiness—what makes people happy doing their job. The focus of the study is ethics, as it is viewed as a moral compass in each profession’s responsibilities. The result of the interview of eight professions (insurance agent, teacher, journalist, nurse, developer, pastor, lawyer, and horticulturist) showed that indeed, money and status is not the top contributors in determining what makes people happy doing their jobs. It is the chance of contributions to society, or at least another person, have power over what to do, without violating ethics, and able to learn and improve. This result suggests that, there is a need for a focus shift from seeing a profession as competitive ground, to a platform of improvement, and contribution to society-within one’s own accord.

Systems Psyche: Its Structure, Operation and Possible Molecular Links

Mukhopadhyay AK*

The psyche stands, connects and operates in between consciousness and matter. Traditionally, the psyche has been considered to have a monolithic structure composed of mind or consciousness. From a robust common sense experience and from the experience of those engaged in inward Olympics with mind this paper theoretically dissects the constituent member of the psyche and their autonomous operations and interaction. From the insight of its polylithic character the paper develops a new description of Systems Psyche. Sandwiched between consciousness and matter the model comprises of a complex relational matrix, a stratified, hierarchically nested labyrinthine structure and process. The probable footprints of the operations at molecular synaptic level have been suggested, which merit further research for developing a concrete picture. These molecular connections could emerge as the basis of developing a systems science accommodating systems biology with systems psychology while consciousness remains active at the top. A beneficial spin off is a new way of classifying psychological and psychiatric disorders.

Linda Matua, Bledar Xhemali, Mirnela Koçibelli, Besnik Jucja and Gentian Vyshka*

This study aims to investigate the presence of drugs in this group of drivers who already had a crash (injured or killed drivers). By law, the prosecutor is the authority who requests the toxicological examination specifying the type of analysis that will be performed, usually only alcohol test is required. There has been some investigation regarding the influence of alcohol in traffic crashes in Albania (3,190,089 inhabitants), but never a research regarding the use of illicit and medicinal drugs in drivers in our country. Alcohol was analyzed in blood by head-space gaschromatography. Blood samples were also screened for psychoactive substances (opiates, cocaine metabolites, cannabis, amphetamines, methamphetamines, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, barbiturates) by immunological methods.     Their presence was confirmed by gas-chromatography. Overall, 82 car drivers were included in the study. Drivers involved in accidents were more frequently men 98.8% (n=81). 46 drivers (56.1%) had a positive blood alcohol concentration at the time of the crash, but only 23 (28%) had toxic concentrations exceeding 1.2 g/l. In total, 15.9% were positive for illicit drugs and medicinal drugs. This study revealed that beside alcohol, psychoactive substances were present in Albanian crashed drivers, too.
